Hattie McDaniel’s Academy Award to be Reissued!

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences will be reissuing Hattie McDaniel’s Academy Award, which went missing over 50+ years ago after the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968. The Oscar vanished sometime between 1968-71 and has never been recovered.
The Oscar will be presented to Howard University in Washington, D.C. at one of the nation’s most renowned Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). Howard University will host a ceremony titled “Hattie’s Come Home” on October 1st, 2023. Ms. McDaniel bequeathed her Best Supporting Actress Award from Gone with the Wind to Howard University in her Last, Will & Testament.
